   Video Production Guidelines

The Media Services Department provides a fully equipped video production facility with  professionally trained  technicians to assist  NWTC staff and instructors with creating educational, promotional and recruitment programs that are tailored to their needs.

Video Production is much like building your own home.  Like a home, if your production has a well-planned construction plan,  you will be well satisfied with the final outcome.

  1. Meet with Linda Jeske(Media Production Technician, 498-5495, Room SC201B) to determine the scope of the project.  At that meeting, you will need to answer the following questions:  Who is your target audience? Will this program present new information? Does the program explain or reinforce previously covered material? Will the program be presented as a stand-alone source, or in conjunction with other materials? Will video allow you to make your point?  Who has final approval of the script?  Deadlines will be discussed based on the existing production schedule. The proposed project’s deadline will  be matched to the existing production schedule.  Existing scheduled projects will have  priority over new projects.

  1. Create the blueprint.  In the production world, this is called the script. The script contains all of the written narration along with descriptions of the visual content that will go along with the narration. You, or members of your department, are the content expects and will be responsible for creating a rough draft or outline of  the script.  Linda Jeske can help in writing the script if needed.

  1. Draft Script Review.  Determine who has final authorization to approve the script.  This “Final Approver” plus other stakeholders should review the draft script. Typically,  stakeholder(s) are other “content-expert(s)” that you will allow to suggest changes in the script.  Linda Jeske is also another good resource person to participate in this review.

Note:  The College Advancement Office is required to review the script if the finished product is for promotion and/or recruitment.

  1. Final Script Signoff.  Once all reviewers have provided their input and the script is completed, the “Final Approver” will be responsible for giving the “go-ahead” for production to begin.  Once approval is given to begin production, no changes will be made to the script since this is the roadmap that is used to collect all video footage, interviews and graphic creation.

  1. Final Production Meeting.  Meet with Linda Jeske to confirm shooting schedule, participants and deadlines.

  1. Field Acquisition.  This involves the collection of  videotape footage, interviews and creating special graphics and/or visuals that will be  needed to complete the project.

  1. Editing.  This is the final stage where the narration, interviews, video footage and graphics are put together to create the video project.  During this phase, the “Final Approver” will be consulted on the bells and whistles such as music and graphics. During editing,  you and/or the “Final Approver” will have the option of sitting in on the editing sessions.  If you or the “Final Approver” chooses not to sit in on the editing sessions, only minimal visual changes will be made as per approval of the Media Services Manager.
