- Are you a good reader and like learning by reading? Good reading skills are important in online classes.
- Do you like working independently? You will be working independently at times, but may also have opportunities for interaction with your classmates in group projects. (This varies by class.)
- Do you have good time management skills? Managing your time is important when taking online classes. It is very easy to procrastinate and run out of time to complete assignments.
- Do you have good organization skills?Managing your assignments, tests, and files is essential. Organizing your coursework and schedule are two important skills which lend to successful completion of online classes.
- Do you have the time required to take an online class? Many believe that it is easier to take an online class and that it will take less time. This is not true. Online classes have the same rigor as face-to-face classes and take an equal amount of time including classroom time and study time. Plan accordingly.
Tips for Successful Completion of Online Classes
- Read your syllabus to identify class policies and expectations. Check for grading policies, student expectations, and due dates.
- Build a calendar of assignments, tests, and even study time. Create the calendar off of the due dates for the assignments and tests. If your instructors does not have set due dates, create a calendar to keep yourself on pace to complete by the end of the semester.
- Stay in contact with your instructor. If you have questions or concerns, contact your instructor immediately. If you are having difficulty, you may be able to work something out with your instructor.
